Kuwait – Vietnam Diplomatic Relations Promotion
Overview
Vietnam and Kuwait officially established diplomatic relations on January 10, 1976. Kuwait was one of the first Middle Eastern countries, and the first in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam shortly after the country gained independence and reunification in 1975.
Vietnam opened its first embassy in the Gulf region in Kuwait in 2003. Kuwait also opened an embassy in Hanoi and a Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City in 2007.
The year 2020 marked the 45th anniversary of Vietnam–Kuwait diplomatic relations. On this occasion, the Consulate General of Kuwait in Ho Chi Minh City launched a media project to promote Kuwaiti culture and affirm the strong, enduring relationship between the two countries.
Solution
The project focused on developing a media plan highlighting diplomatic effectiveness and the development of bilateral relations over the past 45 years.
Content was carefully curated to reflect core values, emphasizing strong economic growth, including bilateral trade, which increased tenfold from USD 350 million in 2017 to USD 3.5 billion in 2019.
The media content stressed the image of sustainable strategic cooperation between the two countries, developed annually with clear themes matching the anniversary event. Media partners included reputable domestic and international press outlets, with a focus on in-depth publications like Thanh Niên and Tuổi Trẻ, which provided detailed articles on diplomatic developments. Other media covered general event reporting.
Results
The promotional activities were conducted on schedule, especially before and during the anniversary event.
The project received positive feedback from readers, the public, and the governments of both Vietnam and Kuwait.
Evaluations by professional agencies recognized the campaign’s success in raising awareness and strengthening bilateral diplomatic relations.
The project played a key role in affirming the status and close bond between Vietnam and Kuwait on the international stage.
